Abdomen Cleansing

Abdominal and colon cleansing

There are various strategies involved in abdominal cleansing. These strategies can aid you in detoxifying your body, getting rid of unneeded toxins and stimulating the digestive system. Getting the nod of approval from followers of naturopathy (naturopaths) as well as yogis, abdominal cleansing treatment methods can help you balance out your health and let you have the main rein of your own body condition.

Abdominal and colon cleansing can also help cure the following:

  • Indigestion
  • Acidity
  • Sexual Disorders
  • Stomach Inflammations
  • Bloating
  • Stomach Pains
  • Curing Constipation Episodes
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Bear in mind, however, that abdominal cleansing methods should be learned under expert guidance and teaching.

Meanwhile, if you’re more keen on seeking out more “liberating” or permanent techniques, you could probably do Ayurveda. Ayurveda can also help treat abdominal bloating episodes, stomach gas and stomach inflammations. This can be more effectively done via the use of amritdhara supplement drops.

Yogic techniques for abdominal cleansing:

Kunjal (Stomach Wash)

Kunjal is a technique wherein you drink several glasses of saline water on an empty stomach. This is best done first thing in the morning. After doing the kunjal, the vomiting reflex will be induced and the ingested water will be thrown out of the body.

By undergoing kunjal, you will maintain proper stomach health and respiratory system. Thyroid disorders and other health related problems will also be addressed by kunjal.

Nauli (Abdomen Churning)

As the name implies, nauli involves the churning or contracting of different muscles of the abdomen. The contracting is done via breath and muscle control. This is basically akin to sucking in your abdomen and then moving the muscles around it in and out and then pushing them forward without breathing.

Nauli has been found essential in increasing the flow of life force in the body (this can induce a much clearer mind). Because the muscle movements and control of breath can generate heat in the body somehow, it can help improve and stimulate the digestive system.

Nauli or abdomen churning also has other purposes: can treat constipation, nervous diarrhea, urinary tract disorders, sexual disorders, indigestion, flatulence, hormonal imbalances and acidity. It also improves your poise and posture and relieves menstrual problems.

Nauli, which is best done early in the morning, can also help energize you and your body. Do nauli on an empty stomach.

Dhauti (Food-Pipe Cleansing)

Dhauti is a technique of cleansing out your stomach and esophagus areas. This is where you swallow a 5 meter strip of cotton gauze and then pull the gauze out so that the deposits left on your stomach walls can be removed. The cotton gauze should have been soaked in water or milk beforehand.

Ideally, dhauti should be done on an empty stomach in the morning, once or twice a week. It is best if you drink a glass of milk after doing dhauti.

Dhauti, by the way, is a cleansing method that can help “cure” the symptoms of asthma and can help stimulate the digestive system.

Colon Cleansing

Note: In other parts of the HealthNYoga.com website, you could read more about colon cleansing and enemas. Bear in mind that colon cleansing as well as enemas can result in better cleansing of the digestive system. Separately, they each also have their very own benefits (e.g. for enema, it cleans the large intestine and help refresh it, causing a more efficient system)

Yoga management of acidity by Dr. Vijay Singh Gusain (N.D.D.Y., Faculty Member, IFNHY)

Acidity, whose symptoms include belching and burning sensation in the chest, stomach or throat regions, is caused by the excessive secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Acidity, when not immediately treated, can cause arthritis, gout, ulcers, false angina inflammations and even chronic indigestion.
Acidity may also occur under these following circumstances:

Hyperthyroidism – this is where too much secretion happens at the thyroid gland

Anxiety, anger, stress and hostility

Intake of food but without the real feeling of hunger

Depending on your mind body type. According to Eastern Philosophy, people who have the fire or fire and air elements in their bodies are more susceptible to acidity

Flatulence, intestinal gases and constipation

Excessive intake of food (this accordingly increases the elements of fire) such as spicy food, oranges, tomatoes, spinach and fried food

Drinking of tea, coffee and other stimulants

Fractional feeding and intake of artificial stimulants (the mere smell or thought of going near food may even bring about acidity)

Eating too much food that could increase the air element (e.g. horse gram, white rice, sprouts and kidney beans)

Importance of Detoxification – Importance of Detoxification by Arun Goel

Toxins in our bodies accordingly create free radicals. These free radicals, according to research, cause degeneration, premature aging and decay. For people who are too wary on getting old fast, free radicals are a no-no!

Free radicals are molecules considered to be dysfunctional since they have missing electrons. They are created as a result of the accumulation of toxins. These toxins are results of our lifestyles, emotional and environment patterns.

If we don’t watch what we eat, if we’re not sure of the quality of air we breathe and the water we drink, some hormones may be secreted and these have the tendencies to leave behind toxins.

The accumulation of toxins then is something inevitable. It’s something we just have to live with every single day of our lives. However, we do have the option to detoxify ourselves of these unfavorable toxins.

Detoxification

Modern science has brought about a form of therapy called “chelation”. Chelation can help detoxify the body. It is performed by injecting a certain chemical to the body. This chemical isolates the free radicals and prevents them from causing damage to the other “healthier” and “favorable” cells. Chelation also helps restore the free radicals to their “normal forms.” The excretion is then done via the urinary system.

Natural detoxification

Chelation is actually something our bodies can carry out naturally. In fact, you can consider chelation as a process of nature.

Some of nature’s way of detoxifying is via sneezing, sweating, urine, feces, menstrual blood, tears and mucus. Breathing, circulation, digestion and secretion are also other forms of chelation. The lymphatic system acts as an excellent chelation agent just like the chemical injected in the human body.

Yoga And Detoxification

Yoga techniques and methods offer detoxification. Interestingly, ancient yogis have already been aware of these effects, hence, they have already used them long before in order to maintain optimum health.

Hatha yoga fulfills the detoxification needs through asanas (yoga poses), pranayamas (breathing techniques), bandhas and mudras.

While pranayamas create the right stimulation in the cells by pumping up energy flows, asanas free up the blockages and other obstacles in the flow of this type of energy.

In yoga, there are quite a number of detoxification methods. These include nasal irrigation (jala neti), enema (basti) and stomach wash (kunjal). Apart from detoxifying the body of unfavorable elements, they also help prevent premature aging and diseases.

While chelation merely works at a physical level only, yoga’s methods work at all levels. This means that yoga techniques also work at both the spiritual and mental levels. For instance, “kapalbhati” helps increase oxygenated blood flow to the brain and helps purify the human mind.
